Hello! I was invited here on youtube, by Janie. Thanks for the invite!
My name is Kate, I am the human. lol. I have five cats, two of which have CH. Their names went into making my username on here, Sadie and Cubby. They are brother and sister. Their story begins a little over two years ago, with a small studio/storefront apartment a couple of towns over from where I am now, with a stray female cat that my boyfriend and I befriended and started to feed. We had our other three cats at this time, and had never heard of CH before. The stray lady was fine, all motor function intact, and very sweet. She took to us and began hanging around outside our apt whenever she could. We tend to attract cats in this manner. lol. Eventually we started to notice that she was pregnant, as there was a rather large feral cat colony right up the road from this apt. with tom-cats all around. So, after we noticed her pregnancy, we made a decision to give the kittens a shot at a better life and started integrating the stray into our own household of cats. The kittens were born in a box in that apartment, a litter of five handsome little ones. At first, it wasn't immediately obvious that there was anything different or wrong with them...we attributed any overt clumsiness to their newborn-ness. Kittens can be very clumsy. lol. Eventually, though, by the time their eyes opened, it became apparent that three of the five were not normal. One was especially clumsy and trembled a lot and one couldn't keep her feet at all, just kept falling down...and the third one was somewhere in between the other two. Two kittens were fine. We named them all while they grew old enough to be given away...they were Petulance, Mr. Adventure, Cubby, Sadie, and Runty Girl. lol. Petulance and Mr. Adventure were the normals. We still didnt really know what was wrong with them, but in every other regard, they were happy, healthy, and strong kittens, so we didn't worry. As long as they were eating and pooping, we didn't worry. So, they grew and we started finding homes. Petulance went to a NYC couple. Mr. Adventure went to my boyfriend's mother. Runty Girl was adopted out to someone wanting a kitten for a friend. Cubby, my boyfriend wanted so we kept. Sadie was so bad from the CH that we figured noone else would want her, so we had to keep her, too. They grew and flourished with no trouble...they were very happy kittens. At their first vet visit, they were diagnosed with feline panleukopenia virus due to their clumsiness. The vet was very excited, saying that he had never seen it outside of school videos before. We weren't so sure, but went with what he said. We had done our own bit of research, too, and found that the clumsiness and lack of motor coordination did indeed match feline panleukopenia, but nothing else did. We had doubts. So we kept researching and found out about CH. That was defintely what our cats had. No panleukopenia, because they had none of the other symptoms (like vomiting and diarrhea and other things I can no longer remember). The other clincher against panleukopenia is that the cat with that disease quickly gets worse and worse, seldom surviving past the first year. Our cats showed no such signs. They had CH, alright. And so here I am. Two years and some months later (actually, they'll be 3 this april!!!) with our two CH cats, Sadie and Cubby. Sadie never grew much past the size of an 3month old kitten, she's very petite and has litter box issues stemming (we think) from the fact that she's always on her side instead of her feet. Cubby is very large and a total jerk to all the other cats. A typical young male, he goes around picking fights with and just generally harassing the older normal cats, despite the fact that all they have to do is smack him on the head once, and he falls over. He's always forgetting himself. lol. They are much more affectionate and dependant than any other cat I have ever owned. I have had cats all my life, literally. It is amazing, but they cannot stand to be locked away while we are home...it drives them (especially Cubby) beserk. They are sweet and loving. They continue to be the pictures of health too. I'm glad we took that stray female in and got the chance to have CH cats. They are a source of endess amusement and comfort, as well as strength. Sadie is just persistence itself...there's no keeping her from something she wants. We have one of those cat tower things and we call her mountain goat kitty for the way she climbs that and the living room furniture. lol. Our normals have never bothered the CH ones,either. They all adapted to each others' company as cats will. Anyway that's probably about as long as an intro can be...probably longer. lol. Sorry!
